We are a family of jewelers. For more than 50 years, our family has worked at the bench as hand engravers, diamond setters and master craftsmen. Today we design and make every Gold & Design piece ourselves, in our own studio in the USA, in solid 14k gold with natural diamonds and natural gemstones.
How every piece is made
The drawing. Every design starts on paper, with careful layout planning. Depending on the piece, this can take an hour or several days.
The wax. Some models are carved by hand; others are designed in CAD. Once the wax model is right, it is cast in solid 14k gold.
The finishing. Each casting is cleaned and refined with files, fine sandpaper and emery wheels, ready for setting.
The setting. This is the step that takes the most precision, and the one we love most: choosing each stone and setting it by hand, one at a time.
The polish. Brushes and buffers bring every piece to a high shine before it leaves our studio.
The next generation
Our daughters now work beside us, learning a handcraft that is disappearing in America. Teaching them, and watching them design pieces of their own, reminds us why we fell in love with this work in the first place.
“I’ve been fascinated with gems and diamonds my whole life: the colors, the shapes, the uniqueness of each stone. Every gem is set by hand, one at a time.”
— Baret, founder and master setter
To everyone who has followed us, supported us and grown with us over the years: you are part of this family, and we are deeply grateful.
